What a market is made of
Each market has its own pair of pools. The long pool holds the market's own asset, which for Bitcoin is cbBTC, Coinbase's wrapped bitcoin on Base. The short pool holds USDC. Every position is backed by one of the two, which is why one market's trading never touches another market's liquidity.
A winning short is always paid in USDC. A winning long is calculated in the market's asset and then converted to USDC at settlement, so you receive USDC too. The few cases where a long payout stays in the market's asset are listed in Payouts and claims.
Prices
The chart and the header ticker read the exchange price, which is Coinbase for crypto and the primary listing for stocks and commodities. Trades are never priced from the chart. A trade is priced from a signed oracle price that the contract verifies against Chainlink at the moment you open, and settled from Chainlink at expiry. Oracles and settlement has the detail.
